Bloody Mary Cocktail Recipes

The Legend of Bloody Mary

The Bloody Mary is best-known as a Sunday morning hang-over remedy. It also tastes great! There are some non-scientific explanations why Bloody Mary has a hang-over curing effect, but mostly it just gets you buzzed again so that you have essentially medicated yourself temporarily and don’t feel the headache associated with your hangover. This is known as “Hair of the Dog”.

Some argue that the high salt and vitamin content of the tomato juice and celery helps the body retain water (alcohol precipitates dehydration), re-hydrate and replenish lost vitamins.

Origin (Disputed)

The popular lore of the origin of the name for this iconic cocktail is attributed to Harry’s New York Bar in Paris. Harry’s bartender, Fernand Petiot claimed to have invented the Bloody Mary in 1921. There are many who dispute this claim, however, it is widely accepted that it did originate in Paris in the early 1920’s.
